Face Transplant Successful
by admin on Oct.05, 2008, under Medical
Doctors at the Brigham and Women’s Hospital in Boston performed a partial face transplant on Friday. It was a 17-hour operation performed by more than two dozen doctors. The chief plastic surgeon, Dr.Bohdan Pomahac, said that the patient had lost some face bones. Though the patient’s injuries were not life-threatening, it was still a major problem for a social life as half the face was gone. The first step in doing the operation was identification of a donor. Once that was done, a six-hour operation was performed on the donor to remove the donor’s tissues. The donor’s tissues were then connected to the recipient’s face. Doctors expressed hope that the patient will recover soon.
